The social media market has really exploded in the past few years.  Social media is beginning to steal the main stage when it comes to interaction amongst peers.  Social media avenues such as Twitter, Facebook are definitely becoming more popular each and every day. The future of social media looks bright.

From CEOs of large corporations all the way down to the junior high students, people are letting the world know \"What they are doing\" in real time.  People are already turning to social media to look for breaking news by eyewitness accounts.  Bakeries are even using it to let their customers know when a hot, fresh product has just come out of the oven.  Dell is using Twitter to sell its discounted products and has already claimed $1 million in sales from using this avenue.

Social media allows information to be passed in real time.  Within seconds of someone entering the information, it will be broadcasted across the world via their followers and friends lists.  Social media networks can prove to be beneficial; however, they can also be detrimental.  Companies are now invoking new policies that will cover the social media outlet.  Information leaks are a definite possibility when it comes to a communication avenue such as this.  The future of social media will definitely see new policies and procedures developed to address these concerns.

As with any trend, who knows if it will last?  It could prove to be amazingly popular in the short term, but as we all know, it will take a few years before it is determined on whether or not this social media buzz is going to last.  Its popularity is partly because it is based as a game where one tries to rack up the most followers and/or friends.  It can even become so addicting that one can try to see how many \'tweets\' they can post in a short amount of time.

Studies have shown that even though one may rack up a high number of followers, actual personal interaction happens with a few. People are spending more time posting what they are doing instead of actually doing it.  Social interaction is taking a whole new direction.

So what does the future of social media hold?  Who knows?  You can\'t actually predict what is going to come next.  The dot com industry has definitely been proof of that.  After the demise of the dot com industry it took a few years for the public to see what was going to rise out of the ashes.  It will take time to see what will fall and what will remain with the social media industry, as well.  When the social media forum has stood the test of time, we will then begin to see what the next big thing will be.  So, until then, people will keep on Twittering and Connecting and broadcasting their life and the life of others across the web.  Let\'s just hope that normal social interaction doesn\'t take a back seat to the virtual world.
